She has won a number of awards for the best actor in a supporting role for the films Dazed and Confused, Reality Bites, Empire Records, The Whole Wide World, 8 Seconds, and Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Her popularity rose with the film Jerry Maguire, where she played the romantic interest of Tom Cruise's character. She was praised for her roles in One True Thing and Nurse Betty, which won her the Golden Globe Awards for the first time. She hogged her way to get the role of Bridget in the film Bridget Jones Diary for which she was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. Zellweger received an Academy Award for the Best Actress in a Supporting role in 2004 for the movie Cold Mountain.
A die-hard fan of Chelsea, she takes keen interest in soccer. She has taken part in the HIV prevention canmpaign of the Swiss federal health department with Marc Forster in 2005.
She received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 24,2005.
